Die Arbeiten knüpfen an theoretische Überlegungen über die Vor- und Nachteile eines solidarischen Kunstsystems an. Ein historisches Vorbild ist das niederländische Beeldende Kunstenaars Regeling (BKR, 1949–1987): Künstler:innen wurden regelmäßig vom Staat unterstützt und überließen im Gegenzug Kunstwerke, bis das Programm in den 1980er Jahren aufgrund veränderter kulturpolitischer Leitbilder abgeschafft wurde.

Ausgangspunkt der Arbeiten ist die Vorstellung eines fairen Modells: Kunst für alle, gleiche Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen für Künstler:innen und kulturelle Produktion ohne Exklusivität. Die Arbeiten setzen diese Utopie ironisch zugespitzt um und reflektieren

Widersprüche, Strukturen und Machtmechanismen. Die Objekte thematisieren sowohl die Potenziale als auch die Schwierigkeiten eines solchen Systems: Was bedeutet Gleichstellung, wenn bestimmte Werke populärer sind als andere? Wie lässt sich „Gerechtigkeit“ organisieren, ohne neue Formen von Kontrolle und Ausschluss zu schaffen? Und ist ein derart geregeltes System überhaupt erstrebenswert?

The works build on theoretical reflections concerning the advantages and disadvantages of a solidarity-based art system. A historical point of reference is the Dutch Beeldende Kunstenaars Regeling (BKR, 1949–1987), a state-funded program through which artists received regular financial support in exchange for contributing artworks to public collections. The scheme was discontinued in the 1980s following shifts in cultural policy and political priorities.

The works take as their starting point the idea of an equitable model: art for everyone, equal living and working conditions for artists, and cultural production free from exclusivity. Through irony and exaggeration, they explore this utopian vision while reflecting on its inherent contradictions, structures, and power dynamics.

The objects address both the potential and the challenges of such a system. What does equality mean when certain artworks are more popular than others? How can “fairness” be organized without generating new forms of control and exclusion? And is a highly regulated system of this kind desirable in the first place?
